High-Temperature Applications

SSIGRADUR® glassy carbon is highly temperature resistant in inert gas or vacuum up to 3000°C. Unlike all other ceramic and metallic high-temperature materials, glassy carbon increase in strength with a rise in temperature up to 2426°C. It also exhibits double its room temperature strength at 2426°C. SIGRADUR® glassy carbon has an extremely high resistance to thermal shock. Therefore, short heating and cooling times are possible without issue. SIGRADUR® glassy carbon also shows no wetting by molten glass. Due to its hard and smooth surface, SIGRADUR® glassy carbon does not exhibit any particle generation like other carbon materials, which would cause contamination. Additional advantages include its smooth surface, low thermal conductivity, and low thermal expansion.

For these reasons, SIGRADUR® glassy carbon is suitable for almost all high temperature applications. Typical applications include pyrometer protection tubes, charging systems, and parts for high-temperature furnaces.
